We moved to Lanzarote in September 2006, and rapidly settled into life here.  We work really hard, and have a number of business interests going. We’ve seen people come and go since we arrived, and are always amongst the fist to extol the virtues of life in the sun… whilst tempering such with a sense of realism. So many people make the move with romantic ideals, and hardly any preparation.

Thinking of doing it yourself? Our advice would be “Go for it!” But make sure you do the following:

1. Ensure you have plenty of collateral behind you. We brought enough money to survive for 9 months.
2. Do your research. What kind of work are you going to do? Is there a need or a market?
3. Identify your motivation. Dont run away from something… run towards something.
4. Don’t move out for a holiday. The biggest reason people fail, is running out of money. It’s hard work here, and you need to remember that. It’s not all about drinking in the sunshine
5. Think about friends & family. We’re lucky in that our friends and family are able to come visit. But not everyone has that luxury. Flight prices are not as cheap as wewould all like - and it’s harder to just “pop home” when you need to.

Apart from that, it’s all plain sailing! Anyway… must dash… am off to our favourite bar for some drinks and chats with friends.

¡Hablo pronto amigos!
